2012 Interview
Why do you like the game of softball?
I live to compete. I love getting out and playing against the best this country has to offer, and the challenge it presents.
Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I would have to say Bryson Baker.
What is your nickname in softball?
C-carr
Where do you call home?
Beautiful Taunton, Massachusetts!
What do you do for a living?
I teach Physical Education and Health at the High School
Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played baseball, football, and basketball in high school. Baseball at the college and pro level.
How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I got my start by playing league in Taunton and then from there Mike Tomlinson of Gonzo's Hitmen (D MA) asked me to play. After playing the D level for a few years John Hickey asked me to play with him. Ever since we have played as high as possible. Mostly B. Really enjoyed my 1st year in the conference.
What position do you play?
First Base/Catcher
What batting grip do you use?
Conventional with the pinky off
What ounce bat do you use?
28.5
What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
I play basketball, flag football, and take as many swings as possible!!
What is your favorite sports team?
I would say thats a tie….. New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins
What is your favorite sport other than softball?
I love watching hockey, but playing football and basketball.
Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I never walk on the chalk, and when I take my practice swings I always stop on a multiple of 5. Weird, I know.
What is your most memorable softball moment?
Back when I was a pitcher, I lead a group of 1st and 2nd year league players to a 5th place finish at the D ASA worlds. We were all just kids, and looking back on it, it was really an accomplishment.
Is slowpitch softball a sport or a game?
It is definitely a sport. There is no game that balls come at you 120mph, where guys go all out 1st to home in the gap, and that people change their lives for.
What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
I would say a slightly softer, more consistent ball. I think it would even out the competition. We are almost platying by 1 set of rules all year and 1 set of rules at worlds. We play all year in the cool of night with scores in the 20's and 30's to go to worlds in the Florida heat where the scores are 13-10 and the balls are socks.
What is your favorite non-World tournament?
The PIF, Sherbrooke Quebec.
What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Speaking of the PIF, last year we were in the losers bracket semi, and I got called out to end the game on an "illegal swing"……….I was pretty mad, but when I turned around John Hickey (about 6-6 330) was chasing the home plate ump (about 5-4 120) up the stairs to the press box using every name in the book! To see him chasing that guy I just stopped and started to laugh. It was priceless.

One of the few Players from the Northeast that can compete and play at the conference level. A pure hitter.
An entire Northeast team (Valley) played and competed at the conference level…finished 4th in B worlds
Pretty sure valley picked up some ex conference guys. Played a poor headhunters team who lost a bunch of guys and caught some breaks from there. One tourney does not a career make. Any team can have 1 good tourney. Play a full schedule next year, see how you stack up!!
You are going to hate on them when ASP scored 9 runs in a night game with 6 bombs???? This link sums up the season for ASP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_dEV1-YsDI&safe=active
Sponsor Valley, I bet they will compete fine in the conference.
What an ironic profession….
